Android 4.0 tablet does not need to be expensive. Since the software is open source, manufacturers can load it up onto their devices and flood the market to their heart’s content. Starting early next year, Coby will enter the Ice Cream Sandwich arena with five new tablets. Coby isn’t necessarily known for stellar hardware, but maybe Android 4.0 has the software optimizations necessary to make these Coby tablets a viable option.
The family of tablets will come with 7”, 8”, 9”, 9.7” and 10” screens. They will come packed with a 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor, “up to” 1GB of RAM, HDMI output and expandable memory up to 32GB.
These specs are definitely underwhelming by today’s standards. It’s also concerning that Coby has not revealed how much RAM or internal storage each individual tablet has. Perhaps Coby just hasn’t nailed those facts down yet. Pricing is also up in the air.
Coby will be showing off these tablets at CES next month. We’ll check them out and let you know if they’re worth your time.
